Potty Time-4-Eva

So February 15th brought potty training to the Kilpatrick household. While it can be fairly frustrating at times since Noah is so young (14.5 months when we started) we are managing to have a lot of fun with it at the same time. Noah has enjoyed many hobbies while on the potty including doing his abacus, reading books, playing with his letters or blocks and having a nice potty snack to accompany his potty fun. Sometimes his potty snacks are not enough and he prefers to have an entire meal on the potty complete with a cup of milk. It cracks me up to hear him suddenly guzzling down his milk when I'm in the other room. While we see no close end in sight for being potty trained, he definitely is on his way. His favorite part of the whole process is to run and say say "ciao" to it as we flush it down the big toilet. Too funny!

Noah is wearing his "Bill Cosby Sweater" aka "The Potty Sweater." Since February was still pretty cold out here, we made sure Noah was bundled up in this thick sweater as he toddled around the house wearing no pants...even with the heat on, the Potty Sweater was a must.

We Love the Park!

Noah is all about the slides. We sit him at the top of the slide and then he decides when he's ready and pushes himself down.

Looking good Asa! We kept pulling his pants up over his jacket as high as they would go...it's a good thing he doesn't seem to care yet. :)

6 Inches of Snow???

Athens was hit with a monumental snow storm during the first week of March. Athens rarely sees snow let alone 6 inches of it in one day. We had so much fun watching it come down and then frolicking around in it. The dogs loved it and Noah thought it was okay...not great...just okay. :)

The only negative part of the storm was that this area of the South is not prepared for events like this. 40,000 people were out of power for 1-4 days. One of my ALS families was out of power for 3 days and their house doesn't have a fireplace which did not bode well in 20-30 degree weather. They ended up coming to school and then going to friends' houses to stay warm. We only lost power for about 5 hours which wasn't bad at all.

The other major problem was that the snow brought down TONS of trees. There were trees and limbs snapping everywhere. We sat on our porch and listened to the eerie sounds of trees and limbs crashing throughout the neighborhood. We lost a huge limb from our deck tree and had to go out every couple of hours to hit our trees with my hockey stick and a broom (of course my stick ended up breaking) to avoid their collapse. It was crazy to see our trees flat on the ground from the heavy snow. We managed to save all of our fruit trees by doing this, but lost some little trees in the side yard. Matt and Jenny's house had 5 trees go down including a pine that came up by the rootball which then shaved off half of their magnolia tree. Over by Erin and Jeff's house there were two huge pecan trees that also came up by the rootball, one of which demolished a car parked in a driveway and the other one fell on a car and house, but did little damage.

Ben's 3rd Birthday Party

Ben had a circus-themed birthday party complete with backyard fair games, cotton candy, and popcorn. Jenny and Matt outdid themselves! Jeff and I ran two of the circus games while Carol (who was visiting that weekend) took Noah around to play.

Noah is a fruit-loving little boy. He can't get enough of it and at this point is in to all varieties. However, his absolute favorite is the strawberry. He eats them like a maniac and a day (let alone an hour) does not go by without me being covered in red fingerprints.

Miami Beach

The day after Christmas we hit the road and went down to Ft. Lauderdale to see Aunt Connie. We had a great time soaking up the much-missed sun and spent our days at the beach. Noah loved the sand and spent a lot of time filling up his stacking cups and then pouring them into each other. He really liked the super clear water at Miami Beach especially since there was a sandbar about 10 ft out which put the water at just the right height for him.

Christmas 2008

Christmas morning arrived with a mountain of presents that Noah kept trying to climb over as he picked out which ones he wanted to open.

Noah's 1st Birthday-December 7th

We had a birthday brunch for Noah's big day and 4 of his friends came (Asa, Ben, Esther, and Taylor) along with all of our friends and his grandparents. We had muffins galore and Noah loved his pumpkin-cranberry muffin with cream cheese (and cauliflower!) frosting. The kids loved balloon time and everyone bopped and zoomed around with them. Noah really had fun opening presents and got a kick out of pulling the tissue paper out of the bags and ripping the wrapping paper. It was a great morning for everyone. After the party, we took Noah for a spin in his new bike seat.
